Update, June 27, 2005: Today, Mike would have turned 28... Here are some more pictures - thanks to everyone that has contributed...
- A wonderful set of pictures from Mike Hartford from Mike's college days
- A few pictures from QuakeCon 2002
- A TradeOut photoshop featuring Mike - Welcome Back, McCarter
- Another (famous?) recording of Mike's Laugh
- A bunch of people gathered at the People's Republik in Cambridge on May 25, 2005 to remember Mike - some of his local, PC, and work friends were able to meet each other, share some drinks (including Woo-Woo's!) (sp?), and laugh at some great Mike Leary stories.
On Thursday morning, May 12th 2005, I heard that Michael Leary had passed away. I first met him in the fall of '99, fresh
from his graduation from Providence College. I was interviewing him for a development position working for me at a little startup called TradeOut... the office space was just being built out - he sat in the only chair, wearing a suit and tie for maybe the only time in my memory, and I sat on the concrete floor. We talked for an hour or more, about nothing and everything... I immediately liked him, and basically hired him on the spot - we became good friends, and over the years he's been a constant source of random joy and humor. His technical skills and way of analyzing technical processes was always a treasure - there was nobody better to have by your side when a challenge came up. TradeOut rose, then fell hard, and when I was later able to work with him again at Authoria, I was thrilled. I was saddened when he joined some of our past TradeOut coworkers at Upromise, but was glad that he stayed "in the family"... I don't know anyone that didn't adore him - it's a real testament to his character and personality that those he worked closely with invariably became real friends.
We miss you, Mike.
